Qualitative Decision Theory

چکیده
We describe a framework for specifying conditional desires “desire CY by E degrees if ,8” and evaluating preference queries “would you prefer ~1 over ~2 given $” under uncertainty. We refine the semantics presented in (Tan & Pearl 1994) to allow conditional desires to be overridden by more specific desires in the database. Within this framework, we also enable consideration of surprising worlds having extreme desirability values and the determination of degrees of preference.

Design and Validation of Decentering Schemes for Decision-Making about Curriculum Based on Schwab’s Theory and Features of the Curriculum Development System in Iran
Aim: the present study aimed to design and validate decentering schemes for decision making about curriculum based on Schwab’s practical theory and features of the educational system in Iran. Method: in the first step, qualitative methods of "Speculative Essay", "Evaluative Inquiry: Situational Assessment", and "Integrative Inquiry: The Research Synthesis" were employed to explain decentering ...
متن کاملBackground to Qualitative Decision Theory
qualitative decision theory: its motivating tasks and issues, its antecedents, and its prospects. Qualitative decision theory studies qualitative approaches to problems of decision making and their sound and effective reconciliation and integration with quantitative approaches. Although it inherits from a long tradition, the field offers a new focus on a number of important unanswered questions...
متن کاملOn Stable Social Laws and Qualitative Equilibrium for Risk-Averse Agents
This paper introduces and investigates the notion of qualitative equilibria, or stable social laws, in the context of qualitative decision making. Previous work in qualitative decision theory has used the maximin decision criterion for modelling qualitative decision making. When several decision-makers share a common environment, a corresponding notion of equilibrium can be deened. This notion ...
متن کاملQualitative decision theory and multistage decision making: A possibilistic approach
Recently, a qualitative approach to decision under uncertainty has been proposed in the framework of possibility theory by two of the authors, where a counterpart of the probabilistic expected utility has been deened, distinguishing between a pessimistic qualitative utility and an optimistic one which can be used for reening the former. In this framework, multistage decision problems can be dee...
متن کاملHow to decide what to do?
There are many conceptualizations and formalizations of decision making. In this paper we compare classical decision theory with qualitative decision theory, knowledge-based systems and belief-desire-intention models developed in artificial intelligence and agent theory. They all contain representations of information and motivation. Examples of informational attitudes are probability distribut...
متن کاملQualitative MDPs and POMDPs: An Order-Of-Magnitude Approximation
We develop a qualitative theory of Markov Decision Processes (mdps) and Partially Observable mdps that can be used to model sequential decision making tasks when only qualitative information is available. Our approach is based upon an order-of-magnitude approximation of both probabilities and utilities, similar to 2-semantics. The result is a qualitative theory that has close ties with the stan...
